Snoring Support

Snoring is the result of vibrations of respiratory structures in the nose and buccal cavity - the resulting sound is due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, but in other cases, it can be loud and unpleasant. Snoring during sleep may be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea in which case it makes sense to contact a health practitioner.

Snoring Info

Snoring is the result of vibrations of respiratory structures in the nose and buccal cavity - the resulting sound is due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, but in other cases, it can be loud and unpleasant. Snoring during sleep may be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea in which case it makes sense to contact a health practitioner.

Th anatomical structures involved are the uvula and the palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a blockage and is usually due to one of the following:

  • Obstruction in the nasal passageway.
  • Throat weakness, causing the throat to close during sleep.
  • A jaw that is misplaced, often caused by tension in the muscles.
  • Fat gathering in and around the throat.
  • The tissues at the top of airways touching each other, causing vibrations.
  • Relaxants such as alcohol or drugs relaxing throat muscles.
  • Sleeping on one's back (which may result in the tongue dropping to the back of the mouth)


Snoring isn’t really classified as a medical condition but when it disturbs one’s partner (or affects one’s own sleep pattern adversely) then it becomes a problem that needs to be addressed.

There are natural health remedies that may help reduce snoring. Brewing sage will help here. Just take two tablespoons of dried sage and place them in a cup of boiling hot water. Once the concoction has cooled down, take little sips and swirl it around your mouth, gargle and repeat. Until the cup is empty. If it is your partner who has the problem, show them how you do it, really make them sit there and watch you, so they learn and commit to memory. Try this technique for a full 7 days.     I bought these to see if they would help with hot flushes and improve sleep. Hot flushes have reduced markedly and sleep has improved because of that - no longer waking at least 6 times a night. I would recommend as well worth a try for menopausal symptoms.

    Love using this in the vaporizer in the bedroom, smells lovely through the whole house, not sure it helps
    with sleep but it promotes relaxation

  • Not helping me sleep

    I used this oil in my diffuser. I have been sleeping ok with the fume of lavender, thought I would give this one a go because it says it's a special blend of different oil that's specifically designed to help you get into sleep. The first night I used it I couldn't sleep until 1am ish! It's got a strange medical smell, not pleasant at all, not happy with this purchase. A pure lavender oil would have been a lot more effective if you just want something to help you relax and go to sleep :(
