Warts Info

"Say -- what is dead cats good for, Huck?"

"Good for? Cure warts with."

Mark Twain, (Adventures of Tom Sawyer)

A wart is a small, rough growth that looks a little bit like a miniature cauliflower or sometimes resembles a blister. Typically they occur on hands or feet, but they can rear their head in other, more unfortunate, locations. As with Huckleberry’s dead cat remedy above, there have been a lot of home remedies suggested for warts over the last 1000 years. Some effective, some not so much.

Contrary to popular belief, warts are caused by a viral infection, specifically by one of the many types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Just like ice cream, there are as many as 10 different varieties of warts, and the most common ones are considered relatively harmless.

It is possible to contract warts from others; they are contagious and usually enter the body in an area of broken skin.

They typically disappear after a few months but can last for years and can recur. One common way to get rid of warts is burning them with dry ice and then starving them of oxygen with an air tight seal (Band-Aid or plaster). This will involve a visit to your GP, but there are some natural solutions that you may find effective.

Most importantly zinc, topically applied, will help remove the warts.

  • I'd like to hear from someone else who has used it

I'm using the Wartoff paint 2xdaily, on my hands and further areas on my feet. I file off any dead skin first but it's doesn't seem to be making much difference. I'm also having liquid nitrogen treatment for the warts on my hands. Does this really ever work?

  • Not worth the money

Although I noticed an improvemnt in the surface of a. blemish, there is too little product in the tube for anything to happen. A really expensive, tiny tiny tube.
