Glutamine Info

Glutamine is an amino acid found abundantly in muscle tissue and vital for maintenance of muscle mass.

Not only muscle, but every cell and tissue in the body utilises glutamine. As the most abundant blood-borne free amino acid it crosses the blood/brain barrier to optimise central nervous system function, enhancing memory and clarity of mind. Stomach and intestinal health and blood glucose balance are also helped by glutamine.

Glutamine Benefits

Glutamine provides 80% of the body’s free nitrogen so is important in maintaining a positive nitrogen balance following intense exercise or injury.

Intestinal problems including leaky gut, candida overgrowth, ulcers, IBS and Crohn’s disease may benefit from glutamine, which helps improve nutrient absorption, energy, tissue health, blood sugar and immune function.

Research shows glutamine supplements can decrease the craving for alcohol, sugar and carbohydrates, useful in treating alcoholism and obesity.

Glutamine Side Effects

Some people can experience constipation and bloating, and in rare cases headaches while taking glutamine supplements. Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Contraindicated in cases of kidney disorder or diabetic risk, liver dysfunction, mental illness esp. bipolar or manic disorders, epilepsy, Reye’s syndrome, MSG (monosodium glutamate) allergy. Contraindicated if taking lactulose medication for constipation.

Product Reviews

  • L-glutamine for gut healing..

    star

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of months ago. My gut was so shot, I couldn't really eat anything without feeling awful. I'd heard L-glutamine is good for the gut so I brought some to put in my lacto-free smoothies. I've improved a lot since I started taking it. I still have a long way to go, but its helped heaps. I've brought my second lot :) I'd recommend this.. but taking too much made my guts rumbly. Everything in moderation ;)

  • Highly recommend for gut health

    star

I have Crohn's disease and notice a huge difference to my gut health when I don't take it for a while. It may seem a bit pricey but in comparison to others on the market it's reasonably priced and will last you a while. I like to blend it in with my smoothie and I don't notice it's there.
