HealthPost Good Ingredients Promise

Good Ingredients Promise

Our Promise to You

Our Good Ingredients Promise removes the guesswork in making a natural, healthy and ethical choice. You can trust that the HealthPost range is free from any nasty chemicals or activities that don’t meet our strict criteria for what a natural, healthy product should be. As a start that means:

  • No nasty chemicals
  • No environmental pollutants
  • No animal testing

Since 1988, we’ve been passionate about helping New Zealanders live naturally healthier lives.
Natural health was once ‘alternative’ but now over half a million kiwis seek natural solutions. With the blurring of the lines of what is ‘natural’, it’s difficult for people to know whether they’re really making the best choice for themselves and their families.

Our goal is to be NZ's (and the world's) most trusted source of natural products, and we take your trust seriously. We strive to stay at the forefront and constantly improve our range. As the science and our understanding has developed, we’ve weeded out products that aren’t as naturally healthy as we believe they should be. As well as natural, ethics are important too – how products or production processes affect the world around us.

Our Good Ingredients Promise is our promise to you, that anything you buy from HealthPost meets specific natural, environmental and ethical standards. You can trust that every product stocked by HealthPost has met our carefully considered criteria.

You can buy with confidence, knowing we’ve done the hard work, and that every HealthPost choice is better for you and better for the world.

Though we don’t claim that our standards are yet ‘perfect in every respect’, we’re taking this opportunity to put a public stake in the ground, and we welcome your feedback.

We’re determined to offer you the most holistically healthy choices you could make – thanks for joining us on this journey..

The Red List

Here is the list of potentially harmful ingredients or processes that we’ve done our utmost to ensure aren't associated with any HealthPost products. We use the latest research to maintain this list – anything on The Red List has, in our view, been proven to have negative impacts on human and environmental health.

See The Red List for the full list of exclusions.

Constant improvement

We’re continually reviewing The Red List based on new research and understanding – we expect to update this over time as we strive for constant improvement. We also rely on our supplier partners regarding correct reporting of ingredients and processes, so we can make informed decisions about which products meet our Good Ingredients Promise. We take this seriously, and have made every effort to ensure our products meet the standards we’ve outlined.

Hair dyes

The only exception is our range of hair dyes as there are no 100% natural and effective options. As an occasional use product, we choose to stock the Tints of Nature range of hair dyes as we believe these are the cleanest and most ethical hair dyes available. Tints of Nature dyes are 100% free of ammonia, resorcinol, parabens and hormone disrupting phthalate fragrances. They do however still contain MEA, PEGs and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (in lightening products only) which are otherwise on the Red List of ingredients that HealthPost does not stock. For a 100% natural hair colour option, you can consider pure Henna plant powders. We highlight this so our customers are aware and have a choice. For more info please read the What You Need to Know About Natural Hair Dyes article on our blog.

Artificial Sweeteners

As part of our Good Ingredients Promise, we’ve chosen not to stock any products that contain ‘first generation’ artificial sweeteners. This includes:

- Aspartame (951)
- Cyclamate (952)
- Saccharin (954)

From our extensive research, we found that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to restrict ‘second generation’ artificial sweeteners. Therefore, artificial sweeteners we will stock include:

- Acesulfame K (950)
- Sucralose (955)
- Neotame (961)

We understand that some customers may completely want to avoid artificial sweeteners altogether. We’re working on ways to make it easier to search for and shop for products that are completely artificial sweetener free, so watch this space!

We will continue to review the evidence on artificial sweeteners and other ingredients on our The Red List, updating this over time based on new research and understanding. As always, we welcome your feedback.
