Endometriosis is a common contributing factor to fertility problems in women. It is a condition where cells from the lining of the uterus appear on the membrane which lines the abdominal cavity outside of the uterine cavity. The main symptom of endometriosis is recurring pelvic pain.

Endometriosis is a common contributing factor to fertility problems in women. It is a condition where cells from the lining of the uterus appear outside the uterine cavity, triggering inflammatory responses. Endometrial-like cells in areas outside the uterus are influenced by hormonal changes and respond in a way that is similar to the cells found inside the uterus. The lesions associated with endometriosis, bleed at menstruation and can trigger cytokines of the immune system to instigate the inflammatory reaction - recognising these internal uterine cells as foreign. Symptoms can often worsen with the menstrual cycle.

Endometriosis is typically seen during reproductive years; it has been estimated that endometriosis occurs in around 6–10% of women. Symptoms may depend on the site of active endometriosis, the main symptom is pelvic pain - with some sufferers describing the pain as 'gnawing,' 'dragging' and 'throbbing.'

As mentioned, endometriosis is a common contributing factor to fertility problems in women. Endometriosis can be treated in a variety of ways. Although medical treatment usually requires surgery and the use of hormones and pain medication, there are effective natural alternatives available including changes to diet, herbs, and nutrient supplementation. Essential fatty acids from fish oil apparently interfere with the production of cytokines and thus have the ability to reduce the faulty inflammation associated with endometriosis. Fish oil may also have a positive impact on other symptoms associated with endometriosis.

Eating cooked brassicas helps reduce oestrogen dominance, an increasingly prevalent factor due to excess consumption of meat and dairy foods plus xenoestrogenic chemical pollution of our living environments. Dietary supplementation with vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, milk thistle may also be beneficial in treating the symptoms. Furthermore taking magnesium, vitamin B complex and maca root will help soothe. Teas are good too e.g. dandelion and ginger.

  • Works well, but expensive

    I've been taking magnesium capsules for a while for painful night-time leg cramps I get as a result of peripheral neuropathy (numb legs) from rheumatoid arthritis. The capsules work ok but I need four of the rather large capsules every day.

    I decided to try Liposomal Magnesium since that's supposed to be absorbed better, but when I take the recommended 10ml per day there is little effect. When I take one 20ml dose each evening before bed it works as well as the capsules. At 20ml a day I get no cramps at all, and if I don't take the magnesium I'm guaranteed to get painful cramps every time, so it most certainly works. I also sleep a little better.

    The taste and texture is a little strange but it's not a problem, and the bottle needs a really good shake every time. Somewhat more expensive than capsules, but way more convenient. I use two bottles a month, so it's nearly $100 monthly, compared to under $20 a month for the capsules.

    Some details about my dosage:
    To get the required effect I've found I needed the normal required daily intake (RDA) of Magnesium on top of whatever I get through my diet. The RDA for Magnesium is 4.5mg/kg for men. I'm 90kg so I need about 400mg per day. The bottle says to take 10ml daily but that only gives me 200mg of magnesium, and I've found this to be ineffective. When I take 20ml of the liquid per day, which is the RDA, it works well.

    Bought these drops for my husband after his GP told him his B12 was very low. He has since had a further blood test which showed his B12 levels had increased and he had only been taking the drops for two weeks at that stage. The drops are both easy and pleasant to take, therefore I would give a positive recommendation.
