A different kind of collagen, and why we chose it
Most people think of collagen as a skin and hair supplement. Looking for joint health support instead, and the conversation changes completely - different format and dose can also be used to support joint health and function.
Why we're carrying NT-II™
GO Healthy has been a trusted supplier for us for over 10 years, the kind of long-standing relationship that means we know exactly what standard their products are held to before we even look at a new ingredient. Joint health is one of the categories we watch most closely, because it's one our customers ask about most. NT-II™ earned its place because it's where the research has moved to - a different approach of supporting joint health than the type of collagen most people already know.
Not all collagen is the same
Type I collagen, the type most people know from skin, hair and nail supplements, is the collagen found in skin, hair, nails, tendons, ligaments and bone. Supplements commonly provide it as hydrolysed peptides from sources such as bovine, porcine or marine collagen. These collagen peptides are generally taken in larger daily amounts, so they’re often found in powders or liquids.
Type II undenatured collagen is different. It's the collagen your joint cartilage is actually made from, the tissue that supports smooth joint and mobility and provides cushioning during everyday activity. With age and general wear cartilage health becomes increasingly important to support joint comfort, mobility and flexibility.
Why "undenatured" matters
"Undenatured" means the collagen has kept its native triple-helix shape, rather than being broken down into smaller collagen peptides. This intact structure is what sets type II undenatured collagen apart from hydrolysed collagen, and it's why it's used specifically for joint mobility and comfort rather than general collagen support. Undenatured type II collagen is typically used in a much smaller daily dose - equivalent to 40-52mg, compared with the higher gram-range doses typically used in hydrolysed collagen peptides.
Daily dose, and why consistency is key
Taken daily in a small dose 1-A-Day capsule, type II undenatured collagen supports immune health through a process called oral tolerance. This is a different approach from hydrolysed collagen peptides, which are generally consumed in larger amounts. Consistent daily use is therefore recommended.
Where NT-II™ comes from
NT-II™ is sourced from premium Atlantic salmon, fresh Norwegian salmon, within a circular-economy model that puts parts of the fish that might otherwise go to waste to use.
The result is a more soluble, type II undenatured collagen that still carries trace minerals, held within its natural calcium-based mineral structure, known as hydroxyapatite.
The marine mineral bonus
Hydroxyapatite is the native mineral component of bone, containing calcium and phosphate. Because NT-II™ combines marine hydroxyapatite with type II undenatured collagen and offers support in two directions at once: joint comfort and mobility, plus bone health, rather than joint health support alone.
Salmon-derived vs chicken-derived: does it matter?
Both are native, type II undenatured collagen, and both work through the same oral tolerance pathway. The choice mostly comes down to two things: dietary preference, and whether bone health support is something you're also looking for.
Might suit you if:
Your joints have started telling you about yesterday's walk or workout?
You're returning to exercise after time off?
You'd rather a marine-sourced ingredient than a poultry-derived one?
You're specifically looking for undenatured type II collagen, whether or not bone support is a priority?
1-A-Day formulation.
NT-II™ works alongside good habits, not instead of them
NT-IITM dietary supplements are supplementary to and not a replacement for a balanced diet. NT-IITM also work alongside regular movement and good hydration. If joint and bone health is the goal, vitamin D3, calcium, vitamin K2 and magnesium support bone health side; omega-3s, turmeric and Boswellia support joint comfort.
The takeaway
Collagen science has moved well past "one powder for everything." NT-II™ is a daily dose of intact, undenatured collagen that supports both joint and bone health by a different approach to type I collagen. Because it's derived from premium Atlantic salmon, it also carries bone-supporting marine hydroxyapatite alongside the joint health benefits.
Knowing the difference between collagen types makes it easier to choose the right one for you and there's nothing stopping you combining type I and type II undenatured collagen if you're looking to support more than one area at once.
Always read the label and use as directed. Dietary supplements are supplementary to and not a replacement for a balanced diet. If taking prescription medicine, or if in doubt, consult a healthcare professional. If symptoms persist, see your healthcare professional.
