What is BPA-Free Packaging?

The chemical Bisphenol-A (BPA) is widely known and becoming increasingly important to many of us in regard to the choices we make on a day to day basis. BPA-Free packaging is a healthier choice – plastic is everywhere and the intention to reduce plastic consumption as well as waste in general is essential to the health of the planet.

BPA can be found in so many aspects of our daily lives. The most commonly recognised source of BPA is plastic water bottles/ babies bottles and plastic fast food containers. Surprisingly the receipt from our weekly trip to the supermarket may contain BPA, as can the lining of canned foods and plastic in children’s toys. It is nearly impossible to avoid BPA completely.

BPA is known to be a hormone disrupter. After it leaches into our food and drink it can mimic the hormone estrogen and so, as a result can cause an imbalance in our hormones. Possible gastrointestinal issues could also result. This might not be an issue once, but the constant barrage of plastic and BPA in our life makes it a bigger issue.

Glass, food grade stainless steel, or BPA-free plastic are smarter choices when it comes to choosing packaging. Food grade stainless steel drink bottles are a great option instead of plastic single use bottles, both in regards to the environment and our health.
