What does Ayurveda mean to you?

'Ayur' means life, and 'Veda' means knowledge in Sanskrit; so to me, Ayurveda is about learning the language of the mind and body connection, which is a living eco-system that is always changing according to the seasons, the foods we eat, those we surround ourselves with, and the herbs we support our bodies with, then using these lifestyle modalities to understand ourselves better and learn how to create balance as a preventive medicine system in daily life.

What are your daily non-negotiables to feeling balanced and calm?

Like many people, I live a busy life; between running Sattva Soul, the supplement company, and working with my one-on-one clients in my Ayurvedic clinic, plus family time, I only get a little downtime.  To keep my inner stillness and clarity, I meditate before getting out of bed, followed by a morning celery juice and journaling session. I also have a no electronics in the bedroom policy and make sure not to use my phone on either side of waking or going to bed as it affects my REM sleep.

Daily movement is also a non-negotiable for me. Still, the type of movement changes depending on how my body intuitively feels, whether that's yoga on a day I want to calm my Pitta or running on a day I need more Pitta energy.

What Ayurvedic herbs do you reach for every day?

I am religious about my herbal protocol because it keeps me grounded no matter what the day throws at me, as our Sattva Soul organic herbs are so powerful. I take 2x Brahmi Capsules upon waking for Clarity and Focus or Organic Shatavari if I'm feeling hormonal. After lunch, I take 2x Triphala and Turmeric Capsules for digestion and to help the detoxification process, followed by 2x Organic Ashwagandha Bioperine on an empty tummy right before bed to calm my nervous system so I can sleep easily.
